5 Days to go, final tweaking... (updated (215 days)

Races are getting closer, you can feel the electric vibe coming from the athletes as you walk by the course!

215 days ago I wouldn’t have thought of being here today! But hey! here I am. I’ve been paddling a lot with Mike lately and things have been going good. The course itself hasn’t changed, just the bottom drop, but nothing major.

Other than that, it’s been snowing at the top of the mountains and raining down here! :-( Winter is definitely on its way. For athletes coming from down-under, conditions are pretty tough! these guys haven’t been through winter for a long time! Having their summer during our winter, and our summer during their winter... :-) lucky some might say!

Lipno, Czech National Championships!

I was over in Vissy Brot AKA Lipno over the weekend racing!

It was a good and relaxing weekend, with a bit of racing! Vavra was able to enter us (Mike and I) so we decided to head down there and paddle on this course we’ve been hearing about for such a long time. Mike’s dad Les also join us on our little tour, and had a brilliant time!

The clip is mainly about the European Champs, but we put a couple of other shots took from wherever we’ve been the past couple of weeks.

So here we go, semi-finals are over and I finished 11th, 0.08 out of finals... gutted because i got given a touch on a gate that was already moving... but that’s life. Would have had the 4th fastest time without that, so that’s pretty positive and reflects quite well my paddling at the minute. I was closely followed by Mike Dawson in 12th....!

Pre Worlds...Heats...25th

Heats are over and I finished 25th... Like at the Europeans my first run was quite good. A couple of mistakes but nothing huge. 2nd run was the same as the Europeans also! weird you might say....! had a brilliant top and then all of a sudden hit the wall and was of line....!

Pre Worlds.....Living in French President’s Flat

Well I’m still in Bratislava, training for the Pre-Worlds/Slovak Open next weekend. Things here have changed a bit, since they have now opened the left channel for the first time since 2003 when I first came to Bratislava on training camp (was 16yo). It went from being really crap to really good! they’ve put in a lot of work to make this happen (i.e couple of wooden board, metal bars, a big white cover so that no one sees how dangerous the stuff really is if it breaks....) but hey its still really good no matter what!
